FHO : “This is the oldest car I’ve ever driven .”
FHO : “Whats that lever behind the shiftier ?”
Highlander: “that’s a choke”
FHO : “ So you own a Sword/Knife store in Po rtland OR?”
FHO : “ I’ve never driven a car with carburetors before. ”
FHO : 2nd gear pull to 55 mph “ OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG”
Is this worse than a versa? IDK, but just look what 49 years has done to Nissan.
Before the storm

2nd gear in my old 280Z was one of my favorite things ever. I miss that old rust bucket.

It was a blast! Thanks so much for letting me take it for a spin. I promise I won’t try to steal it again

This is the first Kicks I’ve seen in person. I encouraged FHO to do a rental car review for this crap can.

“I’ve never driven a car with carburetors before.”
And suddenly I’m feeling so incredibly old.

Yep. And the choke thing, I mean it actually has a picture of a carburetor on the lever...

D’oh!

I thought it was funny. You would never know if you haven’t driven an older car tho.

I miss my Datsun :(

Tbh I’ve owned half a dozen carbureted cars, as old as 1964 — and not one of them had a choke lever. Automatic chokes FTW!

370z’s are getting cheap. Carmax one.

Those don’t even remotely count.

What’s a carburetor???

Oh look at you fancy pants.

You see when a man loves a woman, fuel and air need to be mixed to start the combustion process. A car buretor is like a “marital aid” in that process.

Ahh so it makes burnouts happen so he can impress her!

Lol all American cars-so much cutting edge technology!!!

IIRC there really isn’t a good solution for an auto choke on a side draft hitachi carb. Every down draft carb car I’ve had -except the ‘65 Ford truck- had an auto choke, including the ‘68 electra, ‘ 75 B210 and ‘78 510 wagon.

I’ve had chokes on tractors, but I never experienced one in a car.
![]() 09/06/2019 at 13:58 |

My choke is disconnected, I don’t have the original carbs. Give in to the triples!

Not bad, I think my old one has less than half the mileage though!
I really should make my dad an offer and go get it.

This one runs so damn good tho, I have never had a Z with OEM carbs that ran this good. It revs freely, makes good noises and starts easy. Maybe I need a second Datsun Z as a “race car”.

Well that Z Therapy guy seems to make those work well. But I have never driven a Z with stock carbs!

Yeah, I’ve used chokes on various yard machines, but never a car that I can recall.

I’m really loving all the love Datsuns have been getting recently. Time to start restoring the 3 in my backyard
